sv650 faired if you can find one

umm...ninja ex500, they look all right...
The 05 Suzuki GS500F looks pretty good if I do say so myself...much more modern than the EX500.

WickedAngel 08-24-2005 08:36 PM

The SV650 does look pretty good.

What do you think though; would a ZX6R have too much power? The Suzuki seems to have more CCs, but I don't know how that power is distributed.

im2smrt4u 08-24-2005 09:28 PM

Look at the Yamaha FZ6.

BTW, just passed the MSF course. :woowoo:

WickedAngel 08-24-2005 09:53 PM

Wow...I really like the way the FZ6 looks.

Again though, the lower-tier bike has more CCs (Than the YZFR6).

Is the torque more harsh on the high-end models?

I'm leaning towards a Suzuki GSX500~600. There is an MSF Course available within two minutes of the college I go to and the place I work (GE Transportation Systems). Hell, it's in-between the two. Luck :D

SoulChaser 08-25-2005 10:16 AM

hey does anyone think we should have a bike sub-forum? I am kinda tired of losing the bike threads in Auto[M] because they is 20++ car threads for every bike thread

Also I will be taking my MSF course spetember 9th, 10th and 11th, wish me luck! :D

WickedAngel 08-25-2005 10:21 AM

Good luck man, I'm going to take it soon as well. I didn't realize how cheap starter bikes were, so I didn't figure I'd get to begin any time soon.

is a 600cc bike too powerful for a beginner who is 150ish pounds?

McKnight 08-26-2005 11:57 PM

a newer one sure is.

Each year the weight gets lighter, top speed gets higher, and some dont realise this. they ride a 500 from 1990 then hop on an 05 ninja 636 and think 'hay its only 100 more cc's (er... 136) ...a new ninja can practically do circles around a 600 bike from a couple years ago.

Though people buy them anyway :- / I couldnt stand to ride something so sexy during the break in period... too tempting...

If you're afraid that the machine has too much power, don't buy it. Start out on something you feel comfortable on. Something that's a bit slower.
The SV650 should be a great beginner bike. It's not slow either, even though the engine only produces 52kW.
is a 600cc bike too powerful for a beginner who is 250ish pounds?
No it's not. I dont think that there's anything too powerful for a beginner. The driver decides how fast they want to go, that part is quite easy if I may say. I've started out on a 600ccm ~100hp machine and I don't think it's "too fast" because It doesnt drive faster than I want it to.
The question you have to ask your self is: do I have the self control that's needed to drive this bike?

In my opinion, a good beginnersbike is light (and cheap). Get something that's easy to handle and that you feel comfortable with. If you are afraid of crashing the bike then don't buy it and look at something slower / cheaper...

I will probably get flamed because of my opinions in the message... and if I do, I'll respond to them in a couple of days.. I'm out of town :-)

sorry removed comment after doing a bit more research.

what would the following bikes be like for a beginner:

honda:
cbr250rr
yamaha:
yzf250
fzr250
suzuki:
gsxr250
kawasaki:
zxr250

they are all within my price range, make about 40-50hp, and rev their nuts off. they all look pretty good, and parts are plentiful.

cant get bigger than a 250 due to learner laws

McKnight 08-28-2005 03:57 PM

i wish they made 250's nice looking in the US like those

Me too.

It seems like manufacturers are going out of their way to make the weaker bikes look retarded. I guess they're simply trying to keep the focus on their big-bank sellers.

So what we deal with are idiots tooting around on liter bikes making fun of the guy with the 250:rolleyes:
where are you from?
i am from new zealand.

i priced up new fairings for all the bikes i listed and they are cheap as ships.

i would prefer a faired bike, and if it has a really good condition (non scratched) fairing i would get that and an old scratched up faring for peanuts, and replace it, so that i have a "throwaway" fairing which would protect the rest of the bike(motor etc) against thrills and spills, and when i get to a point where i feel i am confident to do it, i would replace the fairing for the good one.(even though murphys law says that i will probably break it the day i replace it.)

also i intend to buy something like a 600 sportbike later (2-3years from now) when i am a better rider, and keep the 250 as a super cheap commuter bike, or maybe enter it in a racing series or something.
