This is the Intel Compute Stick, a humble HDMI dongle that houses a full desktop computer experience. You get a quad-core 1.33GHz Intel Atom processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of solid state storage—It has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and both a full-size USB port and a microSD card slot for expandability. It will cost 150 dolalrs and comes with Windows 8.1 installed
I have a fireTV stick - it's sort of that but you dont get to chose your OS or anything, unless you hax it or something

What does this one run for OS?

topcat989 01-09-2015 01:53 PM

if it came with wired ethernet and ability to load whatever OS you want, it would be awesome possum

At that rate just get a mini PC, some are less than $100 now and literally fit in your hand

joemama 01-09-2015 02:00 PM

Yeah, but can it play Far Cry 11 with maxed out graphics?

lollersk8s 01-09-2015 02:02 PM

lol ummm it can play 1080p if there's nothing else running, maybe download some other shows in the background

SamFarber 01-09-2015 02:03 PM

Windows 8 - LOL!

lollersk8s 01-09-2015 02:04 PM

Id also rather use a dongle than a direct plug but I guess you can always add that with M-F adapter

brown card 01-09-2015 03:06 PM

yeah i am also sort of interested in this... for rents grans and other invalids

Chromecast is not easy enough, or sufficiently idiot proof... A shitty slow computer with a mouse and keyboard shouldn't be a hard sell.

lollersk8s 01-09-2015 03:14 PM

its nice for 24"+ monitors with hdmi input as spare bedroom TVs, garage etc

I haven't opened mine yet, but i know ill use it somewhere. Parents is a decent idea. The fireTv stick comes with a remote which is pretty handy

DirtyZero 01-11-2015 02:34 PM

is it fast enough to use to play games?

lollersk8s 01-11-2015 02:36 PM

an old 486 is "fast enough to play games"

why do you Kidane's never ask about a specific game???????????????

one of the high-ups at my company, who is being helped thru this process by my boss has a goal of displaying his Surface Pro 3 on a large flatscreen on his wall. 55", using the whatever microshaft bullshit chromecast Miracast bullshit :woowoo: dongle

First TV there was some sort of "issue..." boss wouldn't explain... Being replaced by a 4K somethingorother because <reasons>

I really just hope his expectations are very low... supposedly only going to be for lame little power points but he has been joking about watching foosball on it... pfffffffffft if srs, GLWT...

brown card 01-11-2015 02:46 PM

might be fine if the SP3 is ONLY driving the television... they are decently powerful

lollersk8s 01-11-2015 03:19 PM

It's good to be the boss eh
