an adventure on public transit

over the years public transit has really gotten a bad rap and I am certainly guilty of turning up my nose at public transit.

Today I decided to go on a bit of an adventure and walked from my house to the san leandro library and then took bart to downtown Oakland for lunch and then took the bus home. I didn't time it but the whole trip didn't seem to take that long, more importantly I found the whole experience rather pleasant and relaxing.

HOLD. THE. PHONE.

breaking news: sheltered white suburbanite takes public transportation...nothing bad happens. even finds it pleasant and relaxing.

more developments at 11.

You've clearly never used the bus system in Austin.

For any trip connecting two points more than a block apart, you're looking at at least an hour, if the buses go anywhere near both of them at all, which is a big if. If you needed to go across town, or to the airport or something, more like three hours, once you get to the bus station.

I can't imagine how anyone actually uses the buses as part of their daily life. It barely beats walking, and is a hell of a lot slower than riding a bicycle.

I am not white and I have lived in oakland CA most of my life hard to call that a suburb. I take bart all the time but I rarely take the bus.

yeah I imagine gas in Austin is not 4.30 a gallon yet but thats becoming the going rate in the bay area its certainly enough for me to start exploring other transit options. at 5.00 dollars a gallon I think I would only drive as a form of entertainment

public transit is cool you can read books and listen to headphones and stuff or just nod off for a while. it takes longer but really what else do you have to do.

JoePits 06-29-2014 05:32 PM

also you dont gotta find a parking spot

JoePits 06-29-2014 05:32 PM
