First legitimate failure....

Secondary air pump hose is basically the consistency of tar and it failed on the engine-side, probably a slow leak on the timing cover gasket

Buying 5' of replacement hose on McMaster Carr for 10 bux instead of spending 45 + core charge on the OEM hose

now people on the boards are telling me not to do silicone because they tend to collapse easily and that I should spend $40 on a different one with no core charge

lollersk8s 05-13-2014 04:22 PM

Bro go get a hose of the right diameter from any store that sells hose.

GhEttOrAiD 05-13-2014 04:28 PM

hose with the correct bends would be worth $20 to me

$45 not rly

pyramid 05-13-2014 04:29 PM

I would get the stock hose and mounting hardware and not dick around over $15.

welcome to german cars.

RIP M Roadster

lollersk8s 05-13-2014 04:35 PM

You can only use genuine BMW air fresheners too, don't forget

pyramid 05-13-2014 04:35 PM

It's a hose that runs through a very hot, cramped part of the engine bay and the stock one has lasted over a decade.

why would you trust something else which might not be the correct material or size over a trivial amount of money?

having to swap it out twice will cost you far more in time and money than doing it right the first time. and that's if nothing additional goes wrong from using the wrong part.

I'm sure this is going to be the only problem you have with the car this year, so good thing you got that out of the way.

GhEttOrAiD 05-13-2014 04:43 PM

I'm going to side with the richers sorry loller

fuck

there's a dude at work who will set things right

he's not a richer but he drives and bodges on an e55 AMG, the last one before they got superchargers he'll be able to make the decision
