Tex Murphy: Project Fedora Kickstarter

Remember Under a Killing Moon? The Pandora Directive? Tex Murphy: Overseer? Remember the big fat cliff hanger at the end of Overseer?

They are bringing Tex back, (of course) using Kickstarter.

I have never heard of any of that lol. Right over my head...

Typhoon43 05-15-2012 05:21 AM

I've never heard of any of those movies you mention. What genre is this?

SunKing 05-15-2012 07:40 AM

...movies? These are some of the most awesome adventure games ever made!

Under a Killing Moon: 4,5 rating on GOG: http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/tex_murphy_under_a_killing_moon
The same year that gave you this:

Tex Murphy: The Pandora Directive: 4.5 rating on GOG: http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/tex_murphy_the_pandora_directive
The same year that gave you this:

And these are 18, 16 and 14 years old. Now they're back, same cast, same actor. It'll be awesome!

3nk1du 05-15-2012 09:51 AM

 Was that Ringo Starr? I remember watching a friend play these, never got into them myself. might have to take a trip back in time.

SunKing 05-15-2012 12:57 PM

Uh no, that's Chris Jones, game designer and actor. He's playing the lead character from the games (Tex Murphy).

3nk1du 05-15-2012 02:08 PM

I meant the guy driving the car.

SunKing 05-15-2012 02:38 PM

Yeah, I realised that afterwards. That's Adrian Carr, credited as Director on Overseer, which the scene is from.

OneWhoKnows 05-15-2012 02:57 PM

I like that game genre, but I'm ashamed to say I've never played any of those games!

I Sell Your Kid Drugs 05-15-2012 04:14 PM

I am ashamed to say, I've never played these either. The screenshots kinda remind me of the old lucasarts games (secret of monkey island, full throttle, etc.), but I don't even think I've heard of Tex Murphy.

SunKing 05-15-2012 08:39 PM

You guys really have missed out. It's set after WWIII in San Francisco, where you either are wealthy enough to live sheltered from the radiation or end up a mutant. Think Blade Runner combined with film noir and a huge dollop of dark humor.

SunKing 05-15-2012 09:37 PM

Oh, and since you haven't played any of them, for the mere pittance of $150 you not only get the new awesome when it's done, but you also get all the 5 classic games through GoG included.

Seriously, Under a Killing Moon comes in at #5 on MobyGames top 20 DOS Adventures of all time-list, and the Pandora Directive at #15. The only other series' to get two in the top 20 are Monkey Island, Gabriel Knight and Zork. Hero's Quest, King's Quest and LSL all have only one game each on the list, and of those, both King's Quest and LSL come in under the Pandora Directive. Which means two of the Tex Murphy games are better than any one of the King's Quest and LSL games. (according to MobyGames).

Only 72 hours to go on this kickstarter!

So far we've got $531 000, so we're fully funded, but we need another $54 000 to expand the game, add more puzzles, more people, more storyline, EFIGS subtitles, platform ports and orchestral score!

Head on over to http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/texmurphy/tex-murphy-project-fedora and check out some of the videos and updates there.
