Turning 26 soon, need health insurance in California
I've lived in Korea on and off for 2 years now and haven't had to worry about this because they have a great NHS, and this is the only thing I've been dreading about my return to California.

I'm turning 26 soon and being dropped from my mom's coverage. I'm healthy, male, non-smoker, and AFAIK I don't have any problems whatsoever. Realistically I will probably be unemployed at least 3 months, and even if I do find a job it probably won't provide coverage. I'm looking to get the cheapest coverage possible since most likely I won't be going to the doctor very often, this would only be for emergencies.

Using eHealthInsurance, I found quotes for low monthly rates with sky-high deductibles from companies like HCC and Health Net. These rates also have a max duration of 6 months. Is this my best option, or would I be eligible for Medi-Cal or a similar government program?

Aetna personal plan; $60-70 a month, about $1500 deductible... that's what I had when I was working as a contractor with no benefits.

since you are not employed I assume you might qualify for some state/federal health program. They might use last years income to qualify you though.

Why not look into those first?

Just bend over, put your head between your legs and invite any health insurance company that wants to to come deliver their service.

It's all a ripoff to me.

see if your county has an "ACE" program

If you're 135% bellow the poverty line you get free Medicaid via Obamacare.

So all you have to do is become really poor.

Finished teaching, huh?

Try a new country.

And, you're a healthy 26 year old with no health problems. Insurance? Sounds like you're buying shit you don't need.

A healthy 26 year old should be spending his money more wisely; like on women and booze.

Do you have assets to worry about? If you don't own stuff, get the cheapest you can and if you end up owing a lot, maybe you can bankrupt out of it.

You ever seem Michael Moores film Sicko? He tells us non yankefags that even people with care don't get treated as the healthcare companies employ people to find loopholes and ways out of covering the sick, especially if its potentially life threatening. I'd move to Europe if I was you.
