Food stamps affect my tax dollars?

Most of my roommates are on food stamps as are a handful of friends/acquaintances. Out of this group, only one is disabled. The rest are childless, able-bodied, and possibly the laziest fucking people I've ever known. They seem to have no concern over the fact that somebody else is paying for them to live.

Who is this 'somebody else'? Is it me? I can't find any information on the SNAP website about funding. Perhaps I'm not looking good enough but this information should be clear as day.

That someone else is you, me and the rest of the people who have a job in the USA. Isn't it fun to take care of each other? Now, if food stamps didn't exist, do you think your friends would all die, or do you think they would get off their lazy asses and find some kind of job?

Having worked at a bank as a teller, it would crush every working man to know just how much government money is handed out to trash. Lots of people having kids they can't afford and getting paid for it. Drunks and druggies clamming disability. People living off SSI from their youth. I've seen kids straight out of high school with welfare cards in their wallets already. Fuck people who don't contribute to society.

Welfare should come with mandatory drug tests. People would still get around it but at least some would get netted out.

the workers at the local food stamp office love me and my wife.
Out of the thousands of clients they have, my college + unpaid internship is the best reason they gave come across yet.

edit: I swear I can smell crack everytime we go FFS

not really an EL thread... but whatever

it's amazing how much abuse there is of the welfare/foodstamp, etc. programs... while working in a grocery store in high school, i'd see people literally spend all their foodstamps for chips/soda, cereal etc., and then whip out a thick roll of hundreds to pay for the four cartons of cigarettes they were buying at the same time... my favorite was this chick who drove her brand new lexus to the supermarket all the time... to spend her foodstamps

but for all those, there were always tons more families, single parents, etc. buying non-fancy food to feed their kids... carefully watching prices b/c they could buy two boxes of pasta instead of one can of something, etc. etc...

there is significant abuse, but the programs do help people, just keep that in mind

There are channels available to report abuse and suspected abuse. Do your country a favor.

Great idea, screw the countless others that are actually in legitimate need because of the douchebags that abuse the system. Yours isn't a solution, it's just another problem.

there is a slight difference between receiving food stamps because you cant hold down a job and getting a tax break for holding down a house, but you know what, i say lets do it. lets drug test anyone who gets a non-standard tax break. i dont see why anyone should get special privileges just because theyre in a different situation than me. lets make drug tests mandatory for anyone getting anything from my tax dollars that i dont get. does someone want to get a petition started, or should i start it?

haha, holy hell , how is it that i've never seen this before?

ODB picking up his welfare checks :D

Good for them. The government should give every citizen a monthly food stipend.

I do have a issue with people taking advantage of welfare though. The issue is that you can stay on it indefinitely. There should be a year cut off or a set amount that you get just like unemployment. If the time runs out or you use your set amount and still don't have a job, tough shit.

Drug tests would probably cost more than just handing out the stamps.
