the irony is strong with this one...

does anyone else see the irony here?

I do ...to think that DC would or should I say the house majority would throw away the chance to have the Americans living in the district have a voice because of an unconstitutional law which goes against the right to keep and bear arms in the place designed to uphold the constitutional rights of Americans is unbelievable to me.

I'm not sure why they don't have voting rights, but I'm not really bothered by it either.

I see the irony. Republicans always complaining that Democrats add things to bills in order to make the Republicans look bad for declining them.

It's retarded but it doesn't really fit the definition or irony.

I've got news for the Dems and everyone else trying to keep the strict gun laws in DC.....if your ass happens to get capped on the streets of DC, I'll bet everything I have that it won't be by a registered gun owner with a concealed carry permit..;)

edit- and stricter gun laws won't do anything to lessen the chance of said capping..

I agree. The problem here isn't the gun control, it's that the representatives of DC are preying on the fear of guns that people have.

Making more powerful firearms legal provides a stronger legal deterrent to powerful and illegal firearms. Maybe it will result in a bloodbath or two, but if the government cannot and will not defend its citizens, then we have a right to defend ourselves using the best means we can get our hands on.

It's rather unacceptable to me that the response of a politician to 9 kids being shot is to do absolutely nothing.

I never understood what gives with that about DC though.

The rep or the assault weapons ban?

They addition addresses bill of rights guarantees. And is thus appropriate and not a build a gambling casino in my state addition.

Calling it egregious is disingenuous.
"I am full of promising ideas about how to move forward not only on voting rights but on every right D.C. residents are entitled to as American citizens."
Unless that right is gun ownership, right? God you morons are useless.

Well, at least your ridiculous gun laws make your city a nice safe place where no one could ever shoot up a bunch of kids with an assault rifle...

Lack of representation.

TheMorlock 04-23-2010 08:27 PM
Lack of representation.
DC is not a state so it does not get representation. I don't know if it is barred from statehood.
But the residents born there should be able to select a bordering state as state of residence in order to have representation. Those moving there should retain their state of origin.

It's still tacking on something unnecessary to the point of the bill. Assault weapons bans are in place in numerous states. To tack it on to a vote for representation is disingenous in itself. Republicans know they are making Democrats look bad by forcing them to decline support for this bill.

It would be the equivalent of Democrats generating a bill that gives more funding to police and eductaion, but the Republicans would have to allow abortion or remove capital punishment.
