quick handgun question

Sup.

My grandfather just moved to a elder care facility, and wasn't allowed to bring any firearms along. As a result, Ive come into possession of 2 firearms. One is a Remington model 31 16 gauge shotgun, which I'm not too concerned about. The other is a Colt Woodsman, which is a .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun. and I have a couple questions about it.

I don't know shit about gun laws, but I don't believe this thing is licensed. He told me that his brother purchased it under somewhat dubious circumstances in the 1940s. From what I can gather it was made in 1928, and is supposed to be a pretty reliable and accurate gun.

What I'm wondering about, is whether or not I can make this thing legitimate so I can keep and use it legally. I'd really only use it for shooting cans and stuff like that, but I'm afraid of the ramifications in case any authorities become aware of my possession of it.
I live in Minnesota in case that makes a difference.

I have a picture of it, but i don't know where to fucking upload things these days.
