I thought they replaced the 2.slow with the 2.5L inline-5 in 2005.... hmm.

I would pass, there are better deals to be had at the aforementioned price. The 2.0L engine will be dead-nuts reliable, but you'll hate the sluggishness of it and will oddly find much better fuel economy in the GTI model with the 2.0L TFSI engine. This comes from experience as my wife had a VW A4-chassis car with the 2.0L 8v managing 23-25mpg while my Audi B6 with a 1.8T consistently averaged 28-32mpg. I attribute that to the fact that with increased power delivery, the average percentage of throttle in everyday driving was much lower than in her car.
