That computer you're using with that internet connection begs to differ.

What are you talking about? The vast majority of Chinese military equipment and vehicles comes from one nation: China. Some might be copies of older Soviet era weapons, but the vast majority are manufactured in China and, especially with China's modern military, are of Chinese design. The only difference China has there with the United States is that you pay a Chinese factory worker 1/10th what you would an American, if that. Of course they'll be spending less on military equipment with a budget like that. Secondly, you have to consider the complexity of the designs. Don't you remember what happened when the MIG-25 Foxbat was stripped down an analysed? The USA launched the F-15 program in response fearing the accuracy of Soviet propaganda indicating the MIG-25 was going to dominate the skies. In reality, it was a low-tech aircraft that, while fast, would need to have the engines overhauled after hitting the top speed. I worked in defense before. The problem the US army will have is the tolerances for equipment are incredibly tight. You might pay $10 for a 10 cent capacitor that would be fine in a civilian application. China likely doesn't have this same issue given the technological gap.

China has to start focusing on curbing their domestic pollution issue because their major cities have the worst air quality in the world. With regard to education, Chinese nationals are still going overseas to obtain post-secondary training. Like it or not, western democracies still dominate China in those categories. Further, your claim that it's "more of a priority" for the Chinese government is completely off base. For example, the Chinese government budget for renewable energy sources is $34.6 billion, which is less than half of the OFFICIAL figure for their military budget of almost $85 billion (it's believed that's much lower than China's actual military budget).

With regard to spending on service members, US spending there is higher than China's entire military budget:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_military_budget

Look at the breakdown.

Further, your suggestion that the Chinese government is not prioritizing military spending is completely off base. Chinese military spending is increasing a fast rate. Have a look:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_budget_of_China

Also, the smaller Chinese budget people like to quote when attempting to prove the USA is the great Satan doesn't take into account factors beyond the costs of living for personnel. You can buy a whole lot more with a US dollar than a Yuan, for example, and as I mentioned earlier, many people believe the official figure quoted by the Chinese government is not an accurate representation of what they're actually spending, which is not uncharacteristic of Communist governments.

Plus no other government purchasing program is as corrupted and inefficient as military procurement, that's literally 150B down the drain every year. The best estimates for what we can save via reducing waste, fraud, and abuse in social security and medicare are numbers in the tens of billions, not hundreds.

My PhD was funded through military grants.

He wont. He never proves anything, he never checks his facts, and he never responds when you actually pull out articles showing him he's wrong. He just ignores him and lives in his own fantasy utopia.

I've worked in government facilities before. We don't need to raise taxes to close the gap.

who needs actual figures.

go to a tea party rally instead, where everyone is proud to be wrong, ignorant, or just plain stupid.

shhhh, that's a joint project between the world bank, the illuminati, and the bilderberg group, wouldn't want your little alter ego free_willy to find out lest we be tormented by the huge yellow fonts again.
