D.R.E.W. is the worst [M]ember. He is M|22's sex slave

Charles Daly M-5 Commander Pistol

Manufacturing
Make: Charles Daly
Country: USA
MSRP: $699

Ballistics
Caliber: .40 SW, .45 ACP
Capacity: 10 rounds

Dimensions
Type: Full Size
Weight: 30.5 oz (865g)
Length: 6.90" (175 mm)
Barrel: 4.30" (109 mm)

Looking for my first handgun. I have minimal experience and am looking for home-defense (backup to the 12ga of course) and some fun at the range. Am also looking at a Taurus 1911, but I really like the looks of this.

I'd also like some help convincing my wife NOT to get a Glock 17 (or convince me to let her)

What say you, experts?

if your wife wants a glock, let her get a glock
don't deny the woman the pleasure of touching a glock

Tell her Glocks are plastic pieces of shit. Real guns are made of metal and wood.

edit: also, cocks.

What's wrong with a Glock 17? A Glock 19 may be more to her size/stature though.

For the price you listed, STI Spartan if you insist on a 1911.

That's a good poem.

i doubt you're going to convince a woman she needs a 1911 instead of a glock.

$700 for a CD? no way.
http://www.charlesdaly.com/dalym5.asp
Thats a polymer 1911,dont buy a 1911 with a plastic frame.
Also CD doesnt make a single pistol, they buy them and slap thier names on them.Recently they were buying Armscor from the Phillipenes wich are nice but overpriced since the middle man is involved. Most times they are just questionable at best since they buy cheap and sell high.
Also be aware most high end Custom makers wont even sell a 3" barreled 1911.Reason is reliability as the guns werent designed to be shrunk so small.4" is the smallest most recomend. Some argue this and it can be a crap shoot as some do work and some dont.
Id look at the Colt 3"s like the Agent.

I feel a 1911 is better for home defense due to the manual safteys.A Glock has none, but they are good guns. You better have the trigger covered or be sure your finger never gets near the trigger until needed.
Glocks are cheaper in most cases tho.

I have the PT1911 and i like it alot. Its a very well put together gun for the price.

I have no problem stripping it down, maybe you just have horrible coordination?

If your considering the PT1911 they are supposed to have a new high cap version soon.
http://www.taurususa.com/2009newcatalog/?catalog_page=9
That wouldnt be bad since it was a "Home" only gun,but if you carry it id stick with a standard one.

Glocks are great if you have large hands. My ex-wife and my father both had a hard time firing a glock 19. a 1911 would be marginally smaller. but yah any more than $500 for a charles daly is dumb, they have TONS of injection molded metal parts, which is bad.

I do like the 1911 platform very much, if I OWB carried I would probably carry a 1911 a lot more, but 99% of my carry is iwb, which I prefer the glock for

Heathen-Yak- Have you been around 1911's much? They are super slim for as large as they look.Much thinner than a Glock ever dreamed of.My G20 i traded in was much thicker and felt like holding a 2x4 piece of lumber.
I just started carrying my full sized 1911 and it actually carrys better than my much smaller PT745,the 1911 is only thinner wich is the big thing imo when concealing.
Weight is another thing tho,as a fully loaded 1911 is a heavy weight.
Also all 1911's under $1000 have MIM parts in them, but it starts getting lower amounts when you hit $1k and fewer MIM parts as you go up in price.Taurus uses alot of MIM internals, but whats good is they make them and supply most other MIM parts for other 1911 manufactuers part supplies.

Finding a carry spot on your body isnt easy with a 1911 for IWB. 8-10oclock and 3-4oclock body positions are all the work, and middle of back but that isnt comfy for driving.

Here is a Quik Kydex "Bare Minimum" IWB holster i made and lined with sheet foam padding. It makes the gun dissapear.
You can also see my one screw up wich is the crease in the clip, but i helps the clip not look like a gun holster if its ever seen while wearing.
