GeForce GTX 280 - should I upgrade?

I've had a GeForce GTX 280 vid card in my rig for about2 years now and I've been very pleased with it. I'll have some extra cash available next month, and wondering if it's time to upgrade. I'm wanting to play BF3, Skyrim, ect.

Current specs:
Intel Core i7 920
6 gb DDR3 PC16000 ram
Asus P6T Deluxe V2 MB
Windows 7 Ultimate

Thanks.

with consolitis of games these days, not a whole lot of need. I was running everything maxed out on an 8800gtx up until 6 months ago.

Maybe for BF3, but thats about it

Jesus...other than the Windows 7 your rig outclasses mine all around. I'm still rocking an 8800GT, but I don't game much on the pc anymore. If it were me I would see if what you want to play runs acceptably before spending money..

That's basically the same setup I have, but I have a Radeon 4850 (passively cooled!) instead.

I'm waiting for BF3 before I upgrade my video card.

Im hoping the frame rate gets better for BF3.

I tested the alpha on

i7 980x
6gb ddr3
Nvidia GTX480
1920x1200
Highest setting

35 fps avg
50-55 highest fps
30 lowest fps

Add myself to the 8800 crowd as well.

Along with an athlon x2 4200.

I can't see the need to upgrade.

you know, thats not terrible. 35 is kind of the threshold for me where i dont notice the framerate issues.

What settings was that on for antialiasing? Ive got 2 GTX460s in sli, which is just slightly better than a single 480, and if i could run it at around 40 fps id be perfectly happy

If you're wanting to play BF3 and consider that important, it would be silly to upgrade any sooner than you have BF3 installed on your PC IMHO.

Thanks. It's one of those situations were I have that extra money maybe once a year, and need to take advantage before the wife finds a use for it.

I've been eyeing the 570. I may go with that and pass my current card down to my son who's still rocking my old 8800gt (that is a hell of a card).

Well screw that shit, if you want to budget for a PC upgrade sometime whenever, you're budgetting for it, right? Your wife can go buy shoes some other time.

I like my 560ti, even if i have the fabulous bug that makes you need a cold reboot every 24 hours . 570 should be great.

If you think you need to spend your money right now or lose your chance for spending it, you're not in a healthy relationship.

Nor do you have appropriate financial planning.
