How do you like the Civ games compared to the Total War games? I think total war's campaigns are the only real experience I've had with turn based strategies. I just feel like I'm going to be disappointed because I can't actually fight the battles

Looks pretty sweet so far though

In previous Civ games, there were no manual battles like in the Total War games. More like the auto fight option in Total War that didn't require you to zoom in and actually play the battle.

k its not "earth shattering" and its not "completely different than the last civilization." There are some weird mechanics.
No unit stacking is okay, but then you end up trying to maneuver a bunch of guys around in order to get their full movement.
The "auto path" seems to really bug out when you get more than a handful of units. I'll set it to path to a spot and I'll find later that my guys haven't moved in 5+ turns, its really irritating.
When you can fortify/heal seems weird. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes I move a square and then it works.
All my units don't activate during my turn for some reason. Like above, if autopilot bugs out, those guys just don't get activated in the normal move rotation--if I don't go manually click on them, they'll keep getting passed over as they "don't need commands." I'm guessing this is a bug caused by running a unit over a space planned to be occupied by another unit on autopilot there. Its pretty terrible because there are choke points all over the place.
There are no "sea" transports. Instead, I had the joy of exploring off of my continent, two squares at a time, with buggy autopilot, with each of my 20+ units, by hand, until I found another continent, then one-by-one, landed them, tried to move them around, blah blah.

The movement and "no stacking allowed!!11" seem to bug me the most.

Also, it felt like I was getting shaken down every time I found a new city-state. Yep, heres your gold. Oh boy, bumped into another one, okay fine, take some gold. Oh wait.. now all my empire has a zillion food, no longer needs farms, and all my workers have dropped trading camps on every square on my continent.

First game was a little and then . And took a bit over 6 hours.

Going to read some forums and the manual and things before my next run through, that was kind of disappointing so I was probably missing some new mechanic.

edit: I read nothing about what was new beforehand, other than multiplayer and hexes. Some of my complaints may have "you're a " explanations that I haven't read because I don't follow much news.

Started a larger game, runs like dog shit on DX10/11 using i920+4870X2. I noticed steam updating the game was I went to restart it in DX9 mode, so between whatever ninja patch that was and DX9 the game is much better.

There are some little bugs that I assume they're already patching out, it'll be less frustrating when you get it I guess. I couldn't save to my hard drive before I quit, was forced to use Cloud
Silver lining?

Is there any possible way to purchase Steam games while on vacation in another country?

I'm in the States for a month and want to play Civ but my account is blocked off from purchasing outside of Canada

B52s (American special) are fucking retarded. Range ten, upgrades let them heal every turn regardless of if they make an action, and let them do two bombing runs on the same turn.

I raped my continent. Loaded up a carrier with some B12s and paddled some Infantry out. Bombed the living fuck out of them, started knocking cities over. Bought a GIANT DEATH ROBOT and just ran around bombing cities and running into them with GIANT DEATH ROBOTS, paratroopers (which are pretty ), and a few mech infantry I had.

I hit the end of the tech tree. I had a nuke and atom bomb finishing the turn after I won. Apollo program was going to finish that same turn. I'm sure there were achievements for those but oh well.

After I figured out the benefits of upgrades and how battle commanders worked, it was much cooler. During the late medieval area I was busting out some serious invasion/defending using the same five units, using flanking, the commander bonus, and healing bonuses.

That was warlord, medium, 8(?) opponents. Time for Prince.

edit: Wow, thats dumb, my final tech tree research was ALSO going off on the next turn apparently (I thought I got it already,) and I had a scientist hero just waiting around to get me ANOTHER level of it, but it never went off so I didn't get the achievements. Oh well.

edit2: "Sid Meier's Civilization V 13.7 hrs" in 2 games. Ahh Civilization..

I realized the same thing while I was in Vegas and the steam weeklong sale everyday thing was happening. Missed out on the sales and e-mailed steam support. They said they changed some region restriction for me and it should work, but then the games were full price again.
