it's not like they numbered them in advance of knowing the 6850 was worse than the 5850

uhhh yeah

.

They changes the numbering scheme for this gen though. The 6870 and 6850 is the same as the 5770 and the 5750. The 6970 and 6950 will be the new 5850 and 5870.

I know it's fucking retarded but that is how they are doing it.

edit: I should read though the whole thread before I post.

Shit, I picked up 4 XFX 4870's about a year ago for $99 each for Quad Crossfire.

The 5770 is not better than the 4870 yet still costs more.

I probably just got a really good deal at the time.

Was a good deal, because whatever 4870 that are still being sold are around the same price at the 5770 still. A wee bit cheaper.

What sucks is my computer is so old its still AGP based, granted its completely maxed for a AGP system (7600GT, 2gb, p4 3.4ghz HT lolololol) So if I want to do any upgrades I have to build a whole new rig. Can't wait to play battlefield bad company 2 at full 1080p instead of 1024x768.

A few weeks ago tiger direct had a barebones AM3 Phenom II system for like 300 bucks.

It even had 4gb DDR3 ram and, 500gb SATA Hard drive, case and power supply.

I was going to buy it just because it was such a good deal, but i already have too many computers.

Buy used, use your old case, you would be surprised how great of a system $200 can buy.
