Seems people either love Cold Steel or hate em.

I have never handled any of their stuff, so I can't say anything.

But people sure love their tomahawks.

I think you are thinking of the Rifleman. Only complaint about that hawk I have read was its heavy as shit. The Trail Hawk seems to be one of the most popular.

Sweet...heavy as in unbalanced? Or heavy as in "thick"? I want one I can chop wood as well as drive nails if needed. Severing those SHTF zombie spines is tough luck when the 12g runs out.

Heavy as in unbalanced. Big fat heavy head on that skinny, i am guessing, 18" haft. Doesn't stop me from wanting one though.

i bought a couple of their folders... not impressed

the last one was a large voyager with the integral plastic beltclip, the clip broke off pretty quickly (cheap plastic) and then left the knife unusable as I know had a sharp point jabbing my hand. I threw it out. I had another that I used to open a stuck truck door with, the blade simply snapped with very little force. They don't hold up with an active lifestyle.

For a glove compartment knife or something in a fishing box, they're great. Just don't think it'll hold up to hard use.

I buy benchmade now.

Their other products seem fine though.

I'm thinking about getting one of their Trail Master fixed blades. I don't know if I should go with their San Mai blade, or the carbon steel.

This knife WILL be used out in the woods for various hunting/camping activities.

I bought a Recon1 as a glove compartment knife. Was about ~$65 Nice hone finish (super sharp) and G10 scales, etc. for the money. I have several "nicer" more expensive knives but wouldn't want one to get stolen by being left in the car.

Long story short:
I had a flat tire and needed to pry off a metal hubcentric ring that had rusted to the hub. The Recon1 was the only tool I had (a flat head screwdriver wouldn't fit) with me at the time and I hammered the Recon1 between the hub and ring, and pried the thing off. The blade flexed and didn't snap - still works great.

Folders aren't made to be prybars, but having to use one in a pinch, it's one of the best folders I could've asked for...

Cold Steel Recon Tanto here.

Very good fixed handle for the price ~65.

My friend got their tomahawk too he's satisfied with the product.

But on a personal level, I hate the way that company does business and while they offer good product, there are many many viable alternatives in the knife business that aren't fucking assholes like CS.

My latest folder is an Emerson CQC-7 wave that I still carry everyday for more than a year. Terrific knife. I also had a Spyderco salt which was tragically lost at sea.

As I understand it they have great Customer Service. And the only "scandal" I know of involving them was the whole Mick Strider thing. Which I have no problems with.

My latest Cold Steel purchase:
A San Mai Trail Master

It is nearly the full length of my keyboard. 5/16" or 8mm thick at the spine.
Full Convex grind and edge bevel. Razor sharp.
