I don't I bring an AR, AK or 12ga. SKS in a pinch, and any of my C&Rs if nothing else is there. If I had to, the pistol would be used to get to one of them.

I think the last thing I'd want to do is fire a gun in the house.

boxotruth shows that even a pistol will go through a good few internal walls and rifles go through even more- plus they have a tendency to tumble and go off course. You'd have to be sure that no-one was sleeping in the room next to you etc. Plus what if you hit a pipe or cable in your wall?

Then again, in a desperate situation...

I'm in the UK so I've got my Anics SKIF F1 CO2 pistol. It holds 28 pellets and fires at 600fps and I'm going to attach a torch and laser to it soon. It's not going to blow anyone away but I'm sure the sight/sound of it would be enough, and a few pellets to the face will deter anyone.

I don't want to start a debate here but thankfully if anyone came into the house, they're extremely unlikely to be armed and would run off without a fight. Most burglars are retarded teenage kids feeding drug habits and will run off even if they think someone is in.

I totally understand why you guys keep guns etc though since they are far more common and chances are your burglar will be armed too. Definately best to be prepared- better safe than sorry where your family is comcerned.

your arguement is somewhat weak and flawed. first of all, i agree with you with the fact that the last thing i want is to fire a gun inside my own house. however, the last thing i want is to allow an intruder to enter my home and potentially harm my family. i have no qualms firing a gun at an intruder in my home. harming someone in another room is a secondary concern, my primary concern is stopping the intruder by any means necessary. Things are a little different over in America, as more criminals are armed and dangerous.

pray for peace, but prepare for war. that's my motto.

i think while discharging a weapon at another human in my home trying to hurt me that shooting through a wire in a wall is the least of my worries.

but of course everyone should practice situational awareness

Wasn't really an argument, and like I said desperate times call for desperate measures. Of course your 1st concern would be getting the intruder, but like Vigilante said you should know what is around you.

Would you shoot if you knew your kids were in the room behind the bad guy?

I know, still better than nothing though. If I can't get to my guns, I'll hide in some dark random corner and try to split their faces in two when they come around...

Plus if zombies invade I will have to bring the kukri because there are so many and I might run out of ammo.

one solution to that would be to kneel/squat down and shoot upwards at the intruder... Make yourself smaller/harder to hit. This is of course assuming that your kids are on the same floor as you and aren't doing something stupid like jumping up and down on their beds.....

depends.

another question: would you shoot as soon as you saw an intruder? or try to talk to him? or play it by ear?

are they armed? if you shoot an unarmed intruder who isn't doing anything threatening (other than being in your house), it isn't going to be good for you.

Only if he is a threat. I'd just hold the fucker at gunpoint and call the cops otherwise.

Also If he runs I will not shoot.

Most definetly woulnd't shoot him unless i can obvious verify that he is armed. If it's some guy that is just trying to steal some stuff i would hold him at gunpoint until the police came, if it's my girlfriend's just-out-of-prison ex-boyfriend holding a pistol i probably won't hesitate.

People who don't have home defense weapons just seem to think that if someone is in our house we come out guns blazing, but that really isn't the case. Killing someone is still killing someone and i hope that i NEVER have to do something like that, but if they in any way put my girlfriend or i in danger than it's game time. Too many people watch movies where the man has a gun, someone comes in his house, and he shoots them and all is well, but there is quite a bit of legal recourse and whatnot that comes with the responsibility of using a firearm. For example, if you shoot ANYONE the first thing the police do is take a tube of blood, and if you have any substance (even a small amount of alcahol) you will have a day in court.
