i think you're the one to ask

I am going camping at the end of july, then in a few months camping + hunting in northern california, total of three trips, each trip about a long weekend at most

I don't own a tent, guy who I'm hunting with suggested I buy a 2 person tent, he already has one of this own.

I'm basing this on a single recommendation from a random redditor for one of this companies 3-person tents, then just walked it back to 1 person because it's cheaper

what do you think?

total hiking from parking spot to camp is 3 miles, I am going to be heavily loaded down already (and even more heavily if we kill anything) but i'm not going to spend hundreds of dollars to shed 1-2 pounds on the tent.

that tent is fine. 3 miles is nothing, seriously that should take 1-2 hrs at most and norcal weather at low elevations in the summer is mild. i've owned shelters from $50 to $500, they all have their uses. reddit tends to be extreme in their gear recommendations. the width might be a little cramped but i'm assuming you'll be in there for sleeping only, not waiting out a storm or hanging out in there by yourself.

if the weather looks good and there aren't many bugs (not near a body of standing water) you could just cowboy camp on a tarp in open air
