Really? I had the High and Tight/Prothane poly bushings in two out of the three of my MR2s, and I loved them. I had pretty mild springs and shocks, though. I could see the really cheap ebay coilovers being pretty brutal.

Anyway, if it's just the diff bushings, it's probably not so bad. IIRC, the diff mounts to the subframe, and the subframe mounts to the chassis with some more rubber bushings. Those subframe to chassis bushings better be in good shape, though.

Man... Turner was extremely negative about poly bushings... I emailed asking if they had them, they said no, I asked why not and he links me these three generic google searches about the bushings cracking/squeaking/otherwise failing....

Quote:
Poly can be noisy, can deform, crack and depending on durometer of poly material used can be softer than some rubber bushings.
We pull a lot of poly bushings out for our customers here in our service dept.

Very weird.

I'm still doing it based on feedback in this thread http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...-year-round-dd

I could see poly bushings not being appropriate for a BMW. They do squeak a little, especially in cold weather, and while I never had any crack, I could see that being a problem with intense use.

Also, Turner sells its own line of delrin/aluminum bushings, which they apparently use in their actual racecars. I imagine they'd probably rather have you buy those than some other brand that they'd have to stock, but not use themselves.

They're probably right. BMWs are stiffly sprung from the factory. It doesn't really need to be any stiffer unless your intended use is competition.

Agreed, poly is a waste of time. Solid is too brutal. OEM is juuust right. It's like the bears. Don't let mod-fever get the better of you.

I like pelican, just ordered some hood shocks from them.

like i said though I'm only talking about doing two bushings in poly not a complete set

people on the boards say NOT to do anything more than just the two diff mount bushings otherwise the ride is seriously compromised.

are the old ones shot or something?

I got lucky, my PO had all of them done like a year before he sold the car to me.

I do feel this weird like "judder" sometimes when I'm changing gears

people say that this is a necessary mod even if you don't have failed bushings

they also say that it can help prevent the very real problem where the diff separates itself from the body

That was funny. Asked a fellow car guy at work what he thought about this whole mess, showed him the AKG bushings that Pelican sells, noticed that they have "75D" and "85A" and I asked what that meant, he comes back with this a moment later

75D basically feels like solid plastic...
