how do you pick new regular haunts when you move?

Back in my hometown, I had a regular place to get my haircut, a favorite bakery, a good meat guy, an auto body guy, shit like that... I need to buy shoes tomorrow, for example, and none of my usual chains (scheels, two, etc) are in this part of the country.

For people who move or get resettled... how do you go about picking out your new places without a guide?

That's a good little billboard. I'm surprised you didn't just say "Walmart fags "

you could ask people where a good place to get a haircut is, if its a small town i'd go where the majority of people go to get a haircut. If you're going to be pissy about the fact that its not like the place you lived before, you probably won't adapt well. If you do your best to find new places to go, you might actually be able to enjoy your new home.

after changing countries/languages quite often ...

i've learned to go with the flow ... meet a few locals and check what/where/how they do it.

i ended getting my haircut in (not on) the subway station because it was the cheapest in town (100SEK or 15 USD) when I lived in Stockholm. I would've never went there before with going with some previous people.

have fun with it, it should be an experience

friends - i find the best pizza place in town and have a few beers.

hair - i look for an old time barber shop that still uses heated shaving cream with a bunch of old guys sharing stories and straight razors. the first place i went in CO the guy said he'd give me a dollar off if I could tell him what the significance of the red and white spinning thing out front. still gave hm the dollar but i love trivia and the conversation.
-bakery- asked the old guys
-meat- ask the old guys

shoes...go to the damn mall

at least that's what i did when i moved from OH to FL.to CO,

I too love the old time barbers but if you hit the wrong time, fuuuuuuuuu
10 - 15 old guys in front of you all talking will make it into a 2 1/2 hour hair cut, not bad if you have time to kill though.
