I was planning on cancelling anyways, I haven't played any Internet multiplayer on my 360 since I upgraded my PC and I have a Media Center machine connected to be TV so I don't need the 360 for Netflix streaming anymore.

Its only $60 if you're exceptionally and never use slickdeals/fatwallet/etc. In which case you're likely either ridiculously wealthy via the rarest of ways, or in debt anyway and don't understand/don't care.

edit: If $3/month is causing you to get up in arms, you might want to sell your 360 setup anyway. I just finished off my Big Pack of Fudge Rounds (at 10am ) You know I could never give those up.
offtopic ps: and I'm still losing weight. its fucking rad.

I don't really see the big deal either. Honestly I agree with the guy who said something about MMO subs. I used to pay for those, and if you have just one account, on ONE MMO, it's $150-200 a year plus the cost of the game and it's expansions. Comparing that to XBox live which actually does have a great matchmaking, and thus multiplayer, experience for ANY multiplayer 360 game you own, paying less than half the price is pretty sweet.

People that think, "oh noes another dollar a month", over the span of what, 6 years, is a big deal, should think about it from the other side of the coin. I don't even know if that would cover inflation rates...

I don't have much of an issue paying for live. I enjoy the service for the most part and I'm willing to pay what use to be a price of a game a year for it. Do I wish it was free? Well of course.

However I won't be paying for it anymore unless I get it on sale. $50 was stretching it and $60 is way to much for what they offer. They know they have a cash cow and for whatever reason are now deciding to milk it for even more.

The 360 controller's "d-pad" is just an 8-way hat switch, right? I'd guess that's why it's so terrible. I wonder just how different this new one is.

Nintendo's d-pad patent expired in 2005 according to wikipedia, a couple months before the 360's release. No way MS could have gotten it in for launch. FWIW.

So at most you will pay $5 a month and you're complaining? They always have 1-year cards on Amazon for much cheaper. The way I see it, it keeps some of the completely retarded people from using Live, or simply less people - easily worth $2-5 a month to me. It probably also has a small deterrent value that might make a few people not risk hacking because they don't want their account with a yearly live card that cost money to get banned. I dunno maybe it's just me, but if I payed for a game and online service I wouldn't want to risk getting caught cheating.

I sold it a long time ago because the only game I was playing on it was Fallout 3 and I'd already played as much as I possibly could have, plus I had a PS3 so no sense in using it for a media player, oh and no exclusive titles forced me to keep it.

$10 more isn't much, but dumb nonetheless. Regardless I am subscribed up to 2012 so this doesn't matter to me (for now). In the future, I will buy Gold cards the same way I do now..

Amazon sales. These hiked prices only affect those paying full retail which isn't me thank God.

An MMO is likely something you're going to be playing just about every day as long as you're paying for it. This is appropriate for the nature of these games. For those of us with playing time split between 3 consoles and a handheld or two, it's hard to justify paying $5 for one session of Gears of War, especially after the initial investment. Yet, it's understandable (as I said) that Microsoft wants to change this dynamic--if you want to have all 3 consoles and play 360 online, you're going to have to start favoring your 360 (if you're tight on cash).
