Selling XBOX 360 (switching to PS3), what happens to my Live account?

I have about five months left on my xbox gold live account. just wondering what happens to it, can i transfer it to the person i'll be selling the xbox to?

just a heads up, amazon.com has the ps3 160gb for $300 and a $100 amazon.com credit!

i also just noticed that hte layout of the 360 and ps3 controllers are slightly different. the ps3 has two joysticks on the bottom row and a top left d-pad whereas the 360 has a top left joystick, bottom left d-pad and bottom right joystick.

for those who have both systems, which controller is usually best for shooters? i tend to only play one shooter at a time, right now it's black ops. i'll probably be playing more RPGs with the PS3 though.

I've developed equal levels of proficiency/competency on both. I play Modern Warfare 2 on PS3 and Halo: Reach on the 360, I've played Black Ops on both and it doesn't really matter. The design for both are rather intuitive so you shouldn't have any huge downtime, it's not like you switch to the D Pad often anyway.

No way would I switch for gaming only; although, the ps3 is much better as a home theater device.

To answer your Live question, no you can't transfer it to another gamertag, but you can give them your login/pass (not recommended).

1. Do what you want.
2. 360 controller tends to be better for shooters (and arguably in general)
3. 360 has a much larger RPG library than the PS3.
4. Why are you switching again?

Not to derail the thread, but why is the PS3 a better home theater device?

I have both systems but find the 360 controller better for everything....if I could find a way to make the 360 contoller work with PS3 games I would do it in a hearbeat. Even though I already have a 360, I'll trade you my PS3 with a borked Blu-ray drive for yours.

Yes and no. As a media device the PS3 has Blu-ray which is obviously superior to dvd, and it is quieter when watching a movie and has a slicker interface....but personally I would rather download or stream my movies and the speed of the wireless on the 360 kills the PS3. I have the consoles sitting side by side, both connected wirelessly to my router, and the PS3 takes more than twice as long to download. I tested it by hooking the PS3 up to a 24" HDMI monitor and starting a demo download (same demo) on both consoles at the same time.

doesn't matter now as GT5 killed my Blu-ray drive and I haven't decided how I want to go about fixing it.

Same demo doesn't mean they were the same file size -- PS3 versions of games (and game demos) are often larger (after all, the developers are building to blu-ray spec and can offer uncompressed audio etc). Criticisms of slow download times on PS3 are all -- it's not uncommon for me to get over 1MB/s downloading something off PSN, which is plenty fast.
