He doesn't have to. He just presented the what is happening and legitimate sources of volcanic activity to back it up. Again, unlike your scientist that came under attack because he was presenting junk science at best.

Bullshit
There is about 50 times as much carbon dissolved in the oceans in the form of CO2 and CO2 hydration products as exists in the atmosphere. The oceans act as an enormous carbon sink, having "absorbed about one-third of all human-generated CO2 emissions to date."
How Long Can the Ocean Slow Global Warming?
Please at least get your facts right. If you think I'm wrong, please cite a scientificly peer review research or journal. (Please note that National Geographic is not a scientific peer reviewed journal or magazine).

Any inconvenient fact is junk science.

Ocean content has more c02

Arctic ice\ antarctic ice seasaw swings are normal with no change in global temps as has been found in the geological record for millions of years

Any of that could be true or not without affecting anything I've said.

Volcanic activity contradicts the expert vulconologitsts but their on the spot analysis says it cant contribute to melting arctic ice
They incorrectly believed that those Gakkal Ridge volcanoes couldn't produce such pyroclastic flows because no one had studied the composition of the magma and rock in the region, not because of some fundamentally incorrect physical understanding. Read his Nature article.

His "on the spot analysis" is the view supported by the literature. These volcanoes significantly influence the chemistry and currents of the Arctic Ocean, but they don't dump enough heat into the water to melt the ice kilometers above them. These particular eruptions weren't even very energetic, they just had mass quantities of trapped volatile gases which produced the unusual effects.

Going to combine the rest with the response to badger.

It's "junk science," why exactly? Because it refutes something that was being used to argue against global warming?

We have two positions here, one a hypothesis made by a blogger with absolutely no experience or substantive knowledge of geophysics. The other is the accepted, published position of the geophysical community, made in a context totally separate from the Global Warming discussion. I'm going to default to believing the experts until they're proving wrong. It seems rather ridiculous to blindly accept a hypothesis, coming from a non-expert, which refutes the standard position, as a fact or even particularly plausible before any substantial analysis has been performed. If a peer-reviewed publication comes out stating that those volcanoes are melting ice, I'd believe it, but not before then.

Read the article in Nature. He explains why they used to think that such eruptions couldn't take place and why they were wrong. The "can't happen because of the pressure" soundbite is way too simplistic.

They certainly could be. But, there's no reason to think so until someone actually demonstrates it, and no one has. Which is exactly what I've been saying all along.

Damn I realized the gibsy has a point. It's not junk science. It's outright fraudulent science.
