Windows XP Private Files

Ok, for whatever reason my friends computer no longer boots, giving a boot device error. No discs in either the floppy, or cd rom drive. and in the boot list, its only the hard drive, and the BIOS detects the drive fine, anway....

So I'm trying to talk her boyfriend on what to do, and I've gotten them to put the hard drive into a working computer, and they are able to see the drive, but they when they attempt to access the my documents, they get the access denied error message.

I guess when it was set up, she made her files private in the users prefs.

The question is, is there any way around this, so that she can print out her paper while I walk them through re-installing windows, or whatever the problem is.

assuming pro, not sure if home has the take over ownership ability
in explorer
tools->folder options -> view tab -> uncheck use simple file sharing (at bottom of list)
right click on folder -> sharing and security -> security tab -> advanced -> owner tab -> change owner to: (select the current user), check replace owner on subcontainers and objects -> press ok
now you should be able to view the files...
