Just want it to be utterly reliable. I don't want to push any one part out of spec, and I don't want a thousand stupid little problems.

Yeah, no. Believe it or not, not every import owner does things the cheap, shitty way.

Jesus... where do you guys learn how to build out your cars like this? I keep reading all these stories of you guys rebuilding cars. How do you find out to do all this? I would love to work on my car but I don't know how or where to begin. The only thing I know how to do is change the oil.

Engines aren't all that difficult (or different from each other), so once you learn one, lots transfers.

In the mail, and getting here Thursday: cometic MLS head gaskets (stock thickness), full engine gasket set, lower injector insulators, and the last two in the set of PCV hose replacements.

I hope I'll be able to get it fully assembled this weekend.

grab the haynes manual and find a good forum for the car you are looking to mess with. Then just don't be afraid to take something apart.

Teach yourself.
Buy a car you wouldn't mind taking apart, take it apart, and put it back together.

Worked on the 300 this last weekend, and got quite a bit accomplished (actually, I worked last weekend, too, but that was just cleaning and painting bits that nobody's ever gonna see once the engine's back in...)

Block on the stand again (different than when I pulled it, a little)

Old fuel injectors (370cc, covered in crud):

New fuel injectors (740cc, after some TLC with simple green and brake cleaner on the fuel rails):

Turbos back on manifolds:

and manifolds back on block:
