Registering guns with the importer/manufacturer

Is there a reason why I shouldn't register a purchased gun with the manufacturer or an importer? I was attempting to register my GSG5 (that I've had for months lol) when I found a thread on ar15.com saying that the ATF raided a gun shop and seized some GSG5s because the fake suppressor barrel shroud did indeed act like a true suppressor, making them illegal. Now whether this is true or just a rumor, can registering a gun come back and bite me on the ass? Does the government already know that I own this gun anyways? I'm scared of becoming a criminal overnight and having my rifle taken away.

The fake suppressor does not fuction like a supressor. If you remove it, you would see the actual barrel extends to the end of the fake supressor (and is clearly visible) while attached.

Why would you want to register a firearm with a manufacturer/importer anyways?

As long as you bought it from an FFL they'll find out regardless.

FFL records are open to the FFL upon demand, no court order needed.

They get the records from the mfg/importer, then to the wholesaler, then to the FFL.

Irrelevant on the warranty. Magnuson-Moss Warranty act made such practices illegal. As long as you have your receipt, you're good to go.

I think .22LR supressors are a moot point. Not like those things pump out a lot of noise to begin with.

You're incorrect, statistically.

An unsuppressed .22lr round meters 140-160 Decibels, depending on the gun it was shot with. Good suppressors can reduce that to 115 Decibels. Keep in mind that the Decibel scale is logarithmic, meaning each decibel is 10x different than the ones above and below it.

I will concede my hearing probably isn't perfect.

I don't shoot my 10/22 (rifle) with hearing protection, but I have a MkIII .22 pistol that is loud as fuck. I wear hearing protection for that.
