Yep, we'll never hear about 95% of that stuff from the media because it's not exciting enough. Who wants to read about our successes in Iraq when they can read about our failures, that will sell a lot more papers. the media is a business and they make the most money but reporting the most contriversial or sensational stories, not the ones that contradict most of what they've been reporting for so long.

sorry virrik, by posting all this all you are proving is that you are a drone.
at least, AT LEAST interperet and summarize a little bit.
dont just be a news whore. it's really annoying.
there's good stuff in there. i skimmed it. just the tiniest bit of effort on your part would make you look like so much less of a douche.

Some people take comfort in self deception. Whatever the merits of overthrowing Saddam, what has transpired has been utterly disasterous.

That group.

Yes a better job could have been done in Iraq, abu ghraib and disbanding iraqs military, but to call the situation in Iraq utterly disastrous is an extremely gross overstatement.

The situation in Iraq could not be that much worse. There is a barely functioning government whose agents desert at the slightest threat or inducement - they seem cowed by militants in some areas and their allies in others, Fallujah, for example. Much of the countryside is controlled by bandits - commercial freight is not being moved for love or money. Kurdish parties, Shia parties and militants and Sunni militants are functioning in what looks more like a Middle Eastern version of wartime ex-Yugoslavia - state forces and countless thugs all scrabbling for power and none capable of gaining it. A government does deserve the term if it fails to exercise what is called a 'monopoly of violence.' Even with intensive US-UK support it is not even approaching what might be attained in a comparable situation. Non strategic infrastructure and electricity has suffered a net deterioration even compared with sanction bound Baathist Iraq. I am sure it could be worse - but it is very bad situation indeed.

Wow a country that's been through several wars and decades of neglect hasn't attained a high standard of living overnight, we must be completley fucking it up.

It took years to rebuild Japan and Germany after WW2, why the hell does everyone expect Iraq to magically transform overnight? Progress is being made as those articles have shown, but none of the mainstream media wants to focus on that when they can focus on a prisoner abuse scandal or an insurgent uprising, those make much better stories that will make them more money.
