Motor is totally fine, so yay.

However.

He pulled the EFI fuse and the plugs so no fuel would get squirted in while he cranked the motor over. Injectors continued "clicking" even with the fuse pulled.

Then the cranked the motor over, huge jets of gasoline got blasted out of all 4 cylinders, I guess all over another customers' car.

$$$$$$$He wants to completely redo the wiring harness.$$$$$$$$$

So, how much is it actually going to cost?

IIRC, the modification needed to make a Gen 3 harness work in a '91 isn't that major. Finding a clean one and making the requisite modifications is probably the best way to go about it if your swap was really done that poorly.

Documented here:
http://www.mr2oc.com/showthread.php?t=100637

If I had the shop manuals for both cars, I wouldn't even hesitate to do that myself.

Don't know, he couldn't come up with a number.

I was just straightforward and honest about my financial situation he'll probably use my account balance as a starting point

It's a good thing I'm not buying cigarettes every two days let me put it that way.

Who is "he?" Did you take it to Brian Moore or something?

Anyway, given that it was running not all that long ago, it may not be as expensive as you think to pull the wiring harness out and find any of the mistakes that were made. It's clearly not that messed up.

I'd charge you a "I can't believe you paid $5K for a car in this condition" fee, though.

he said it was a good buy for 5k, of course that was before he knew the whole story

"he" is a toyota/mr2 specialist, the only one in the state who isn't booked until next century

given the number of antifreeze vaping machines and fruit juice you've ordered, do you really think you've saved much money over just killing yourself with regular smokes?

And of course your mechanic is going to tell you that you got your car at a great price. If you sell it for scrap he makes jack shit. If you keep thinking it's worth throwing more money at, he's going to hold out the bucket and let you throw it.

Didn't you just install a new intercooler right before all this happened? Could something have been damaged or left disconnected when you did that?

/dunno, just tryin to help.

Is this of any use: http://www.ebay.com/itm/JDM-92-Toyot...-/321244242994

To be fair, you've apparently had to write a blank check to an "mr2 specialist" to have him fix what is probably a simple problem.

That's unfortunately not the correct year; the one he needs is from a 1994 - 98 Japan-spec MR2, plus just a little custom work to make it play nice with his 1991 US-spec body harness. The harnesses are almost the same, but not identical.

It sounds to me like it should be a relatively simple issue though, given that it's apparently fueling itself so enthusiastically. It ought to at least fire if it has that much fuel, as long as it also has properly timed spark.

Edit: Assuming it's real, this is what he needs, right here:
