Global Warming Awareness / Earth Day Concerts

Does anyone else find it rather hypocritical to celebrate global warming awareness and earth day with a music concert? The amps and lights use a ton of electricity and people driving to these events are just polluting the environment on their way to the concert. Not to mention, the garbage and mess that is left behind after a concert, typically cleaned up, but still not really helping the environment.

How about you celebrate earth day by riding your bike to work for a week? Or walking to your local park and planting trees and flowers? Global warming, believe in it or not, What good does having a concert do for global warming or the environment?

It's a holiday created to generate money, just like valentines day, christmas, mother/fathers day etc etc

Because people will have fun at a concert and are more likely to come in bigger masses to take part in the festivities. How many people do you think will actually want to become inconvenienced to ride the bike to work.

Most tree huggers refuse to believe this...but many people make a damn good living off spreading environmental fears. Ask Al Gore why he never wants back in mainstream politics again.

Suprisingly, I agree.

It the same reasong why conferences on saving the world and helping poor people are held at fabulous 4 or 5 star resorts. The people who say they just want to help the children are usually hypocrites and see nothing wrong with spending thousands of dollars to sit around and talk about the problem. God forbid they actually do something helpful or useful.

Things like this concert or Al Gore using a jet and having a oil heated house or whatever have negligible impact compared to what could be achieved through spreading information about more energy efficient lifestyles. However I'm pretty sure these events are totally ignored by most people and only reach people who are generally (which is to say not much) already environmentally conscious. There is no significant way to spread awareness of environmental preservation without having some impact on the environment and environmentalists trying to remove themselves from the workings of modern society to achieve that is only going to make their message and plans completely ineffective, which in turn is only going to hurt the environment. Complaining about the tears of the weatherman in a rainstorm ,as it where, is pretty stupid.
