NVidia 3D Vision 2 w/ laptop switching video cards

I have a Lenovo Y480 laptop which switches between its Intel onboard video card and NVidia 650M when it needs the extra power. I'm trying to use an NVidia 3D Vision 2 kit along with my 120hz monitor (Acer GD235HZbid) to play Diablo 3 but can't get it to work because according to NVidia, the monitor (connected via HDMI) is connected directly to the Intel onboard card and can't switch to the 650M. I contacted Lenovo and they confirmed that there is no way I would be able to have the 650M as my default card without switching back and forth between it and the Intel video. Is there really no way to go about doing this?

don't both that laptop and monitor have VGA connectors? would that work with the 3D?

or are all the external video outputs linked directly to the intel GPU?

I would assume that all of the video outputs are linked with the Intel GPU because the computer recognizes it as the default card.

that seems like a serious oversight on a gaming laptop. They never thought anyone would want to game on an external monitor?
