Got the rock guard texture off there easy with a steel bristle cup on my angle grinder:

Here you can see that it's been painted about 3 times over its life:

Getting ready for some etching primer:

Laid a coat down:

Next weekend, I'm going down to the South Valley to take the rest of the paint down to the nub on the rest of the car. If I had known I had 3 base coats and 3 clearcoats to go through to get to primer, I would have done the rest of it there, too. I didn't have anything bigger than 80 grit, while down at the shop in the valley, I've got access to 36 and 60 grit.

It took about 5 minutes, including the time I took to hammer and dolly the flange at the bottom flat again. Bristle cup FTW.

when have I mentioned anything blue oval in this thread??

You're the only one around here that turns everything into a "roundel pwns all" jizzfest.

And, no, I am NOT going to dig thru this thread looking for furd mentions, I don't really care.

It's only effective at rust control when applied to bare metal. It'll adhere fine to just about anything. It doesn't build up, and you really only want one thin coat, so it's not terribly useful as an all around primer, but I have some high-build primer to lay over it (and some putty to put over where we hammered it out a little).

Eh, don't bother, leave the hole open so you have someplace to make sweet creamy love to your car.

We worked at night, because it's fucking hot here during the day.

Now, I need to figure out how to lower the windows without any wiring harness, on account of that's what I need to do to get the interior out of the doors (and get the handles out).

if you've still got the power window motor in there you can just ground the neg and touch the 12v to a power source until the window is down. i had to do this once when when my power window switch crapped out.

He said there's no wiring harness so there are no wires to ground/connect

i thought that was the case but i wasn't completely sure if that just meant the complete wiring from window to battery (not including the regulator). if the regulator was still there it could work
