I could easily smell in when I drained it. So...

4 * .03 = .12qts of fuel in the oil or so we can grasp the amount 3.84 fl oz of gasoline in there.

So you are certainly right if he had a quart of gas in there you would sure as hell smell it especially at operating temp.

Big time. It's very easy to tell used oil v. used oil with any amount of raw gas inside. As long as you have an average sense of smell.

I did an oil change on an old 70s GMC truck one time and you could tell there was a ton of gas in the oil. Not only by the smell but the splash it made when it hit the pan

I bought a haynes manual for it and started going over the basics. it sounded like it was missing a cylinder and I pulled the plugs. Low and behold plug #2 and #5 was flooded with oil. I changed the plugs and it ran much better. I then changed the oil. Holy shit. The manual says this engine takes 5.7qts. but I ended up pulling over 7qts from it!! After doing the oil/spark plug change the thing runs like a whole different vehicle.

my question is. how/why would this car have so much damn oil in it?

I bet you the spark plug tubes had oil in it and not the cylinder. Typical noob mistake.
