Well, I'm no expert on torture, but if it was truly an effective intelligence gathering tool then I suspect the US would have knowledge of all the insurgent bases and hideouts. They would have the names of who is planting the IEDs and have rounded them up. Heck they would have even known about the secret prisons and death pits run by the Iraqi forces that are still loyal to their secular roots.

Instead the US forces seem to always be a couple steps behind and fighting shadows.

More attacks on Shiite shrines, killing another 70 or so people.

The US Embassy and military command in Bagdad have put together an in-depth report on Iraq's stability. The news is what you would expect with most areas in serious condition and a few even described as being in critical condition. A synopisis with a link to the rull report can be found here.

So you don't like the slant of the NYT. Big fucking deal. The news, the facts, the events, they still happen, don't they? And try as you might you can't disprove that.

That you have to jab the source of my news each and every time I post something is beyond pathetic. It's like you have to chime in with the same, tired old shtick in order to keep up with me.

Fox News is amazing for the pundits. They make me laugh. The point is that I won't discredit Fox for their facts, just their slant.

Badger is grasping at straws trying to discredit me personally rather than make an argument regarding the state of Iraq. That's why he feels compelled to enter this thread time and again even though he had nothing new to say.

I will continue to beat his ridiculous, unproven notions on Iraq into the ground with nothing more than the daily news as it arrives.

Aw, poor baby, you avoided my question. Can you prove the events I'm posting aren't happening in the real world? Can your ego suffer the bruise of admitting that he NYT reports on events that actually happen, or are you insisting that they are fabricating their news? Pick one and answer the question please.

The last dozen or more article are straight news from a respected paper that you don't like, not that anyone cares. No op-eds, no blogs, no comedy shows. I want you to still play that card though, it is amusing to me. Since it's the only thing you say in defense it effectively castrates your argument that Iraq is better off.

Stay the course buddy!

"On Saturday, Mr. Khalilzad and Gen. George W. Casey Jr., the senior military commander in Iraq, issued a statement praising some of the political and security goals achieved in the last three years, but also cautioning that "despite much progress, much work remains.""

You always using the NY Times is proof enough that it's tainted to the far-left..... your cause. No one is debating the terrorists' acts of bombs, IEDs going off, and executions. We understand the terrorists are trying to disrupt the new government. We also understand the good that is happening with the different parties working together to make a government, despite the horrible terrorists' actions.

Is the glass half full or half empty? The NY Times always seems to be half empty.

Is that a joke? The parties havent even formed a fucking official government yet. Yeah parties that are based on strong arm relegious oppression or ethnic division, many of which are highly corrupt, can't even decide on who the PM should be. Sure are doing a bang up job, democracy a go go!

Also, please stop screaming TERRORISTS every time violence or something negative happens in Iraq. There are plenty of native Iraqis who are killing each other, dont give the terrorists all the credit big guy.

Times Magazine article letting General Greg Newbold speak out on the Iraq War and why he retired.

Quote:
From 2000 until October 2002, I was a Marine Corps lieutenant general and director of operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. After 9/11, I was a witness and therefore a party to the actions that led us to the invasion of Iraq--an unnecessary war. Inside the military family, I made no secret of my view that the zealots' rationale for war made no sense. And I think I was outspoken enough to make those senior to me uncomfortable. But I now regret that I did not more openly challenge those who were determined to invade a country whose actions were peripheral to the real threat--al-Qaeda. I retired from the military four months before the invasion, in part because of my opposition to those who had used 9/11's tragedy to hijack our security policy. Until now, I have resisted speaking out in public. I've been silent long enough.
