This totally negates any other ice shelf that has been documented to lose ice in the past, because you know, this one didn't.

because you know they just used a computer sim with no actual data input. and GASP the computer sim gave the results they pre programmed it to produce.

there was a thingy in the paper about sea levels on the east coast rising at 3-4 times the rate of anywhere else.

For that specific ice shelf.

For others there are actual photos spanning periods of time longer than one winter, not simulations.

That's how ab initio modeling works. You don't use data to program them, you try to model all the fundamental behavior well enough to reproduce past data. If you do it well, it'll have predictive value. If you find flaws, like not correctly predicting the behavior of an ice shelf, you go back and try to figure out where in the behavior modeling you messed up and fix it. That certainly doesn't mean they're rigging it to predict future trends that they want to see.

Empirical or semi-empirical modeling incorporates data directly, along with some level of fundamental behavior for the semi-empirical modeling. It's easier for sure, but without an actual physical understanding built in, it doesn't usually do very well for predicting things outside the norm. Like, say, a changing climate.

This is not the rigged data you are looking for

I just wish I could be around long enough for the serious repercussions (climate change) of greenhouse gas emissions to cause enough damage and disruption to say: See, you stupid fucks? Now it's too late to do anything, because you were too fucking busy turning the science into some absurd "left vs. right" partisan debate.

I like how the secretary of the navy succinctly and subtly put it the other night on colbert...

"70% of the world lives within 40 miles of an ocean, and so as sea levels rise, instability follows."

and seriously, if anyone had definitive proof that global warming / climate change wasn't real, they would publish it in a peer reviewed publication and collect their Nobel prize and million dollars...

the issue isn't whether climate change happens, the issue is how much is indigenous to the planet and how much is caused by humans.

climate changes- ice ages, global warming, all that has happened before there were humans

modern humans are 100,000-200,000 years old.

CO2 levels today are higher than they have been in 800,000 years.

the idea that humans are not affecting that by simultaneously destroying carbon sinks and digging up and then burning old carbon reservoirs from the ancient past is just kind of tarded at this point. especially when you factor in other gasses like methane from meat and natural gas production.

shit is happening for real. playing games will not change that.

no

the Earth has dealt with much worse, i.e. catastrophic meteor strikes and volcanic eruptions that have released MASSIVE amounts of carbons into the atmosphere that our lowly 'intrusions' pale in comparison to, yet ... the planet remains.

We may be wiped out, the planet will remain

holy fuck at you dbags that think you are greater than the mediocre, at best, situations this planet has had to overcome

ugh
