Don't get me wrong, the results are worth the effort for a Z32, but I'd start off with a turbo.

My own build

In that case, you have a lot more flexibility.

I have a 944 Turbo, and I would not suggest buying one to rebuild the motor.

Have a good look at parts prices, and complexity before you jump at either one.

I would suggest a Turbo 4 banger like a 200sx for my money.

This. Better to enjoy driving it and doing upgrades as you go than start with a old heap that will be stuck in the garage 10 months out of the year.

Those are some very particular choices.

There are probably other cars that would fit your wants. Looking for sports cars around $10k? There's also Supras, RX-7s, MR2s, Corvettes... You can build a sick FC RX-7 for 10k.

Dude I thought of you and SgtMaj(or whenever his name was) and it did not seem like a fun project!!!

I know you are in Australia where the 200SX is a Silvia. The US only got the 240SX which came with the KA24DE motor and not an SR. Even that project may indeed be more worthwhile.

You'd get a totally bad-ass MR2 Turbo that already had most of the work done for $10K.

Wouldn't likely be as fast as turbo 300ZX, but it'd be pretty quick, and definitely fun.

Of those sales I would quicker jump on the SC400 with the manual swap. One some Lexus for a dude twin turbocharged his and also did a Getrag manual swap and that car was just(He spend a lot on the car though, in this case half the work is done)

This.

Initial buy budget might be $10k. Project/parts/labor after intial purchase might be $25k, but this option would get you the best bang for your buck, maybe you could stop short of 25 grand.

Although the engine bay isn't that much more forgiving than a Z car
