When me and a bunch of friends were still in high school we did this all the time. Everybody rock-up in their trucks with a full tank of gas and their tow-ropes and head out to find the biggest snow drifts in the area. Used to call it Snow-by-Fouring.

Full tank of gas is essential because most of the time you're just flooring it and the rear wheels are spinning. I think I used a full tank in about 45 minutes in my old Chevy. Good times.

And this is just how I get around on old logging roads that have up to several feet of accumulation due to the fact that nobody plows dirt roads in the middle of nowhere. You get off in the ditch while losing momentum - yeah, you can be momentarily stuck, but all you need to get out is a shovel. I also have skidplates the length of my rig - it slides though like a greased hotdog.

Now as far as what you were doing - even if you hear snow rubbing you still have quite a bit deeper you can go - just go a little faster and stay on top of it. When you start spinning your tires lots faster than you are actually moving - THEN it's time to start thinking about getting off the road. I would have just driven home and avoided pulling into the gas station's ditch. That just doesn't make any sense at all.

With 50hp once you lose forward momentum, game over
the #1 thing that convinced me to ditch was how much trouble my car was having, and the sudden arrival of snow lighting.
When the Snow lightning hit it dumped about 6 inches in 30 min. No way I could power through that

And this is the part I realized that you don't know what you're talking about.

edit: or if you do know what you're talking about it sure as fuck anything worth being called "deep" snow

I wonder how far 50/50 AWD drive and 285HP would get me.

Fuck I wanna try

When I was in breckenridge about 2 weeks ago, we got about 40 inches of snow over 3 days.

Driving in that snowstorm...was one of the best experiences of my life, and I mean that in a good way.

plowing down snow on the highway with 10 foot visibility in 245 width tires...in a 2008 sti.

god I wish I lived there
