legalizing pot is going to hurt some entrepreneurs. Prices for high quality Canadian pot in the southern states will plumet.

I'm not overly excited about this.

coming from someone who knows nothing about it:

im sure this was covered somewhere in this thread but, wouldnt it just be easier for people to grow their own pot rather than just buying medium-heavily taxed pot?'

but from what i do know, i agree, it should be legalized. its so dumb that cigarettes and beer arent illegal but something way less harmful is thanks to one person and uneducated politicians (during that time)

Why should any plant be illegal? sure, drugs should be regulated but you can't make a plant illegal. Also its most likely the most used mind altering substance through all of history, along with alcohol and psilocin. It isn't one part of humanity's culture, it's all of our culture going all the way back to a time when we were less evolved. Cannabis can be used for food, medicine, fuel, clothing, piper, building materials, entertainment. It is one of the mose diverse plants both in terms of habits it thrives and flourishes in and how easily and artistically it can be cultivated, and in its wide range of uses. It is a plant that big pharma wishes never existed but will do anything to exploit, anyone who wants to make an argument about marijuana should start their sentence with an analysis of alcohol which is fine for many in moderation but when compared in terms of danger and abuse with marijuana is a clear and evil champion. ahem.

and having medicine for my back pain and insomnia that I love and I know is organic and clean and delicious and natural, there's nothing better. I feel sorry for ambien freaks.

also, free hash is the best hash.

AP IMPACT: After 40 years, $1 trillion, US War on Drugs has failed to meet any of its goals

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2010/05...ed-meet-goals/

Quote:
Using Freedom of Information Act requests, archival records, federal budgets and dozens of interviews with leaders and analysts, the AP tracked where that money went, and found that the United States repeatedly increased budgets for programs that did little to stop the flow of drugs. In 40 years, taxpayers spent more than:

— $20 billion to fight the drug gangs in their home countries. In Colombia, for example, the United States spent more than $6 billion, while coca cultivation increased and trafficking moved to Mexico — and the violence along with it.

— $33 billion in marketing "Just Say No"-style messages to America's youth and other prevention programs. High school students report the same rates of illegal drug use as they did in 1970, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says drug overdoses have "risen steadily" since the early 1970s to more than 20,000 last year.

— $49 billion for law enforcement along America's borders to cut off the flow of illegal drugs. This year, 25 million Americans will snort, swallow, inject and smoke illicit drugs, about 10 million more than in 1970, with the bulk of those drugs imported from Mexico.

— $121 billion to arrest more than 37 million nonviolent drug offenders, about 10 million of them for possession of marijuana. Studies show that jail time tends to increase drug abuse.

— $450 billion to lock those people up in federal prisons alone. Last year, half of all federal prisoners in the U.S. were serving sentences for drug offenses.

At the same time, drug abuse is costing the nation in other ways. The Justice Department estimates the consequences of drug abuse — "an overburdened justice system, a strained health care system, lost productivity, and environmental destruction" — cost the United States $215 billion a year.

Harvard University economist Jeffrey Miron says the only sure thing taxpayers get for more spending on police and soldiers is more homicides.

"Current policy is not having an effect of reducing drug use," Miron said, "but it's costing the public a fortune."

You think you should be allowed to do what you wish to your own body> In other words, you have a death wish? Fine, just blow your brains out. And save your friends and family decades of anguish as you waste away. Save the government thousands in treating your "pain" which will never go away. Save the innocent life you'll hit on the highway because the alcohol or pot made you swerve lanes. You want death, take it, and stop burdening everyone on the way.

Pot is legal in Jamaica and other places, yet once again, you don't like it here but you won't move to the spot you claim is better. I'm sick of listening to pussies whine.

You're really crazy, aren't you? And very ignorant. Marijuana is NOT legal in Jamaica. I repeat...NOT legal. And some people pretty much do NEED to smoke the plant for medical reasons. I'm not saying most ppl don't exaggerate symptoms or completely make them up to get weed, but there are many who benefit from it.

I personally don't smoke weed, but I also don't think it should be illegal, taking up so much of our law enforcement resources to crack down on something that doctors are prescribing to people as well.

And if this guy actually thinks smoking weed means you have a "death wish" he's either 9 years old and bought into all the misleading propaganda or he's a moron who conducts absolutely no research before opening his damn mouth. I suspect the latter.
