For any trip connecting two points more than a block apart, you're looking at at least an hour, if the buses go anywhere near both of them at all, which is a big if. If you needed to go across town, or to the airport or something, more like three hours, once you get to the bus station.

I can't imagine how anyone actually uses the buses as part of their daily life. It barely beats walking, and is a hell of a lot slower than riding a bicycle.

The problem with public transit has nothing to do with all that - it has to do with the fact the establishment refuses to keep people off that shouldn't be there.

My car was in the shop of couple of years ago so I decided to take the rail to work and back and it was much more relaxing. Even though it took an hour to get to work as apposed to 12-15 mins by car, I felt less rushed.

That's the biggest problem with it here... they don't hire good security and the security they do have don't carry weapons. A friend was on the light rail (the above ground subway here) and two guys broke out into a fight and the security guard just stood by and watched (usually security isn't even in the cars, just at certain stops).

sucks when someone in a wheelchair has to get on the bus it takes like 5-10 minutes to put the ramp down and get him on and strap him in. usually its some fat fuck that can't walk but sometimes its a disabled vet so i try to not let it bother me and just remain patient cuz they got it pretty bad.

I used to take the train when i was 9 alone, to go to my grandma's house in Russia.

I'd to a metro station from our apartment, take it to Finland Station under/across the Neva river, then take the train like 7-8 stops over to a suburb where she lived. Then I'd go back. Being stolen or beaten or raped never crossed my mind. People would sit quietly and read books. Sometimes a dunk guy would be passed out in the back, nbd as long as you don't fuck with him.

Motorcycle? I get ~45mpg on my motorcycle, and it runs on regular.

If I didn't occasionally have to carry more than a backpack's worth of stuff, I don't think I'd ever even need a car.
