car dudes.show me how not to (or watch me) blow up my car with shitty DIY wiring.

ok,

got my amped sub up and running. i have the 'remote' signal wire attached to the cigarette lighter, all it does is senses the power and switched the sub on or off, in this case when i turn the key.

i want the option to turn the sub off, so i got some led rocker switches.

i also bought a dual usb charging port thing - like the one you push into the cigarette lighter, only this is an all-in-one thing.

i want to run the positive power wire from >

lighter - 3amp fuse - usb ports - switch - remote cable (also fused) to the sub.

will this work?

or will the 3 amp fuse blow when i use the cigarette lighter?

please advise.

The 3 amp fuse should only blow if you are drawing too much power via the the USB charger and 12V signal wire.

The cigarette lighter should work even if the 3amp fuse blows.

If the combined charger, signal wire and cigarette lighter load is too high, then it will blow the stock fuse for the cigarette lighter in the fuse panel.

Looks good to me.

Not if you wire it the way you have it in your diagram, the 3 amp fuse is not in line with the lighter.

Was about to ask WTF you were running a gnd wire to the switch. Then I read you were using an LED rocker.

K Looks p gud. Just remember to insulate/heatshrink, even behind the switch.

got it all done today. everything works. just have to put that big glass tube fuse thing next to the battery and its all cocker spaniel.

i have a total of 5!!!!! fuses for 2 usb ports, a lighter and a subwoofer..... if one breaks its going to take me an afternoon to find the cünt.

the led on the on/off rocker switch for the sub is a bit bright id prefer it to light when the sub is off and dim when its on. i thought swapping the + and - would achieve this, no love. google told me the wiring involved is WAAAAYYY out of my league.

meh fuck it.

edit: oh and i did what royjr said. heatshrinked everything.

your circuit is no good, if you forget to turn off your amplifier(s) you could run your battery dead. There's a better way to do this. Assuming you have an aftermarket head unit with a remote out you could use a toggle switch to make or break the remote wire connection to your amplifiers. If you want to get more complicated we can do that as well though. LMK

edit: nm, just bothered to read your post and saw that the cig lighter is switched with key, nothing to see here
