~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thread-making Guidelines ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In view of a recent flamefest, I think its a good idea to have up some general guidelines for what a good photo thread should be...
you guys can contribute, and with some sort of general consensus ill delete the thread, and sticky a new locked one... here's what i think: 1. IS THIS A PLACE FOR CRITIQUE, a GALLERY, OR BLOG? firstly, this forum is about photography (and imaging) at its heart, and improving one's skills in those domains. It's not really about, hey guys, this is what i saw today, but those two need not be mutually exclusive-- if you saw something cool today, but want criticism as to your end result, the documentation of it, then this place is for you.. i also think, though, that this forum can be a gallery of sorts for people who arent that interested in critique, but just want to share their work, see how its received and the like. however, for that to work, the photography has to be well developed, because then we the users will benefit from being exposed to it, by the creativity, aesthetic, etc.. if the pictures are shitty and the photographer isnt interested in improving, then really its a genmay photoblog post, and doesnt belong here.. about threadmaking itself: 2. ASK US WHAT YOU WANT FROM US. is it critique as to composition? is it critique as to post-processing? Is it even "do you guys like this picture, or THIS picture better?" these kinda questions will give us some guidelines as to how to reply, and youll get more comments for it. otherwise, most people (myself included) will just post something like i like 9, or i dont like 7. your effort translates into our effort. 3. NUMBER YOUR PICTURES! much easier for a commenter to refer to a picture if it is numbered. simple as pie. anything else?
Its a place for everything, people just need to explain the purpose of a thread when they post it
no, i think that main forum is a place for everything.. I think he put it pretty well in his post, this is a specific subforum with a specific mindset about it, not everything belongs here. it's a photography forum, not a picture forum. there's a difference. |
No swearing in thread titles, either. It reflects badly on your momma, and how she raised you.
