Empire: Total War official thread

Demo released at 11est (couple of minutes).

Can't wait to d/l it and try.

BTW for anyone who might be interested in the full game, Amazon has it for 39.99 right now (and since it uses steam you can tie it to your steam account like a steam game).

Total War. As per usual I'll rape the shit out of this game, then get bored, then download some awesome mods from the awesome community, then rape it fifty times harder than before.

I'll be needing a hardware upgrade though, which sucks,

damn the download is going slow. Usually steam is really fast for me. but i'm at 91% and only getting 40 KB/s I usually get 1 meg/s on steam.

yeah mine was slow as fuck too

played the historic land battle and i have to say its a totally different game. it looks great, sounds great, and the units move much much better. love the way the units look when they get hit it like watching a movie when you zoom in close.

cavalry are so damn strong but also so damn weak. so you cant be charging them into a stationary unit head on or they will drop like flies. when you do get a good charge they basically decimate the enemy unless they are fighting cavalry, and also depending in what formation they are in.

but with artillery and horses aside, just infantry vs infantry seems pretty "equal" if you go head on without maneuvering. so it really comes down to tactics.

one thing that bugged me was when you selected a unit on the map, the unit picture is barely highlighted and i could never tell what unit it is.

only played that first battle and will try the naval battle later

I made a video showing the naval battle and man, my first time recording/editing/uploading and YT butchers the quality on it.

the land battles felt like an total war game, but to me the navel battles left much to be desired.

What did you not like about the naval battles? I thougth they are pretty well done for an RTS.

Especially if you use control of them (IE take the time to set up your ships and use the wind and things as well as firing the guns yourself).

If you just click the ships and sit them up to attack an enemy and leave it be then you're missing out a lot.

ya i know. It just felt all so slow, like really slow. I played the game in at least 2X when doing the navel battles. It was pretty easy. I dunno, it was well done, just boring. It was like a non fun version of sid miers pirates, well at least to me. ha ha ha

I spent more time waiting for it to load than I did playing. It must either be my system or something going faulty because it was using loads of memory and it looked like shit.

I'm still really excited but annoyed that I probably won't be able to play this for a while.

Yeah, I can see how it might be a bit slow for some.

Personally I'm more a fan of realistic based naval games (IE sea dogs, etc) though both are still a bit more arcadey.

I thought the pacing wasn't that slow, especially when you get fairly close to the other ships.

If it was too fast you'd be constantly having to micro-manage your ships with higher numbers under your control and wouldn't get that much time to watch the battles unfold really up close like you may enjoy.
