Not confrontational, you asked why and I answered it. Because the market (consumers) dictates what sellers (producers) produce. CD's are still too mainstream.

I didn't see much that's integrated on the front panel when I was doing my research; then again, I wasn't looming at anything over $500, it's possible the $700++ units have them. Unless you're talking *any* USB input that's in *any * location--then yes, everyone's got it, and it's ubiquitous. But when most units get USB on the front panel itself... Then it'll be truly ubiquitous.

Just updated it last week. I can DEFINITELY tell the difference between CD and MP3 now, even at 320 CBR.

(Swapping CD's sucks. I'm considering reripping to WAV.)

Burn them to DVD...

Here's EVERY current Pioneer head unit. All have USB:

Here's all the Alpine's. Half of them are front panel, a couple are under 200$:

Kenwood. Again, Half of them are front panel.

My point is, if you want front panel USB, it's easy to find.

Huh. I stand corrected. But those are all single-DIN, yes?

You can use a mini-usb, they have plenty of capacity. I use sd, I actually have the Dual unit that was posted earlier. It's perfect for my truck since I take it wheeling and cd players suck when you're constantly slamming your rocker panels, skidplates, and bumpers off of trees, logs, and rocks. They also skip like a mother on hard landings. The other pluses are it's cheap as hell to replace, and it's only like 3 inches deep - light and compact. Downside is - the display is bright as shit and has no option to turn that off or dim it. I've been meaning to take it apart and break the backlighting.

who the heck watches porn on dvd anymore anyways.

I see your point. I would want a solid state receiver due to NVH - i.e., you're rolling in a Cat D9 and dust is a concern.

+1

I have a discless alpine and it's simple and effective and it cost me like $125 at BB, on sale... ida-x200 iirc? Now called the x300, they added something like lossless support (I can flash mine to it) but both still have b-tooth, sat ready, etc

They don't offer anything you can't have as a file on a thumbdrive. Digital is digital broseph

i haven't missed CDs one bit

Not much to miss: you have to burn them and then you have a whole million of them in the car sliding around. Less work, less shit in your car, win win.
