Deciding on next Conceal Carry Weapon/Caliber

I know I've got another thread running a similar topic title, but I'm addressing something a bit different here.

1) Should I go with 9mm or .40

Pro 9mm
  • Cheaper to practice with (1000rds $200 for 9mm, $300 for .40)
  • More rounds in the mag (not a big deal, but a point nontheless)
  • less recoil

Pro .40
  • Larger caliber
  • More potential stopping power (by a margin considering 9mm technology is pretty advanced)

All in all the calibers match up pretty well, thought prospect of more practice giving cheaper ammo causes me to lean towards the 9mm. I have a .40 XD sub-compact right now. I'd be looking into getting the XD-M 9mm possibly since it can hold a crazy amount of ammo (20 if you include what's loaded)

What do people think? Also I guess I'm just a little open about which gun. But I really do like the XD.

the xd-m looks pretty sweet. the few little tweaks to the xd really spiffed it up. i'd definitely say 9mm just for practicality, and the 19+1 is awesome. thats a lot of self defense, if you go hell bent crazy. the 2 mag holder that they have is pretty cool too.

but you do already have a .40 xd.. so how about a snub revolver?
the ruger sp101 has lots of carry options.

isn't the XD-M a fullsize 9mm? that doesn't seem very practical for CC. I'm a .45 fan, but thats just me.

Yeah I'm going to my local gun range to find out if the XD-M will work for a carry option.
Reason is I'm selling my XD .40. Someone offered me $575 for it. So I can't really pass that up, going to ship to his FFL probably next week.

I'm looking at the XD-M. But I'm actually pretty interested in a snub revolver too now that you mention it SDmason.

If the XD-M conceals well I'll probably go with the 9mm flavor. If not, I'll try and look at some snubs, cause that's a real easy thing to conceal.

looked at the SP101, seems like a nice gun, about same price as my XD though and about the same size too saddly. Hrmmm. Still probably easier to conceal though.

Go shoot the guns.

Buy whichever you can shoot better.

It doesn't matter what caliber it's in if you can't hit shit.

1) Go to the range and finger fuck the pistols
2) Shoot them
3) ...
4) Profit.

Shot placement is far more important. A few hundredths of a inch is not very likely to do you much good. Capacity gives you more chances to get in the stopping shot.

9mm

The XD-M is going to be huge. Even if it were a duty gun.

Wood, wood, wood. Would you please get that penis out of my butt?

That's a good poem.

I carry full sized guns, including the Springfield XD-45 all the time. It isn't that difficult if you find the right holster. Of course the style of clothing you wear makes quite a bit of a difference as well.

I agree. Our range is stupid though, they have a very narrow selection of guns that you can rent from them and shoot. Then they have overpriced gun selections. They suck. I only go there to shoot my own stuff... I have an XD and I shoot it will which is why I assume the XD-m will be the same. I might go today if I can squeeze in some time and test out the XD-m with a holster.
