66 Mustang 289 drop top in high school. I loved that car, but quickly learned that every two week carb/valve tappet adjustments, vapor lock etc..were not something I wanted to deal with long term on a daily driver.

1951 Pontiac Chiefton that my friend owns. Totally underpowered, only a 3 speed, but still feels so effing cool to roll in it.

The fact is, cars from the 50's, 60's and early 70's require a level of regular maintenance that most of us wouldn't want to deal with for a daily driver. I'd still like to have a cool older car as a garage queen/weekend toy though.

how much did you drive that thing? I'd be surprised if it needed a valve adjustment every few thousand miles.

Although even some non-ancient cars need regular valve checks/adjustments. My 1990 Integra spec'd every 15k miles, when it only claimed to need an oil change every 7500 miles

It was my daily through high school and first year of college, and the engine had a partial rebuild around 1981, but was still pretty original when I got it. It wasn't quite every two weeks, but it damn sure felt like it....and the fucking 4 barrel was a nightmare to keep in tune.

What's the oldest car you'd be willing to DD for ever?

I'd say 70s vette. All discs, IRS, power windows, ac, etc Almost modern. Ish. Or one of those very early 3 series.

Never gave me any problems daily driving it. I did ditch the points ignition for electronic which helped but it always started no matter how cold it was. Before I rebuilt the engine the valve stem seals had disintegrated and it did put out a nice smoke screen when you started it after sitting for awhile. Neighbors loved that.

The 81 plymouth horizan in the background was my beater at the time. Got it for free when it broke down in the driveway lol.
