Anyone for Starcwaft?

I just started playing (ten years late), and was wondering if any Genmayers would be so inclined play online as to help me get the basics down. My goal is to become decent by the time Starcraft 2 comes out. I've played Warcraft 3 quite a bit so I get the basic mechanics, but it's so much faster than Warcraft and people are so good now that trial by fire just isn't possible. Also, what's the best server to play on? I live on the west coast but I hear US East is the most populated.

Play single player, the story line is worth it and you will learn all of the units.

Plus it will make you more excited for SCII.

Then play MP, of course I haven't played online in ages.

I'm chugging away at the campaign right now and I'll be damned if this game doesn't stand the test of time. As an avid PC gamer, I have no idea why I've never even touched Starcraft. I guess I know plenty of movie buffs who've never seen the Godfather though...

There's "decent" as in "I want to get good enough to win comp stomps and 3v3bgh games" or "decent" as in "I want to hold my own on a low-money map that all the Koreans play." One requires a lot of work to even get to.

USWest is undoubtedly the best server, but if you're wanting to play competitive Starcraft (low-money) you're going to eventually want to play on a ladder like iCCup.

I really have no idea what you just said :[ But to clarify, I want to be good enough to play with random people without pissing my teammates off.

by low money he means very low resources at start, low number of nodes and possible cash from those, as opposed to say, big game hunters, the old standard multiplayer map.

yeah, "low-money" is a standard map while a money map is a map with essentially an infinite amount of resources that doesn't require the player to make macro decisions such as when to expand and how to spend resources wisely

This is what it's all about
Another one I love is building a barracks in the enemy's natural expand/near it, and then floating it there.

edit: And low money maps are basically normal maps. For some reason a lot of people play infinite money maps, or even worse, hacked infinite money maps which accelerate mineral income massively.

You will know the joys of Starcraft once you play as Zerg and manage to build 6-8 hatcheries.

I play on East or West, usually East because you get more english speaking players.

I play under DigitalMocking or IDKMyBFFAiur usually.

Hit me up on AIM, I'll give you the rundown. I average around 80apm most of the time, I've seen some crazy ass koreans throwing 170+ apm (actions per minute)
