Yeah, it's pretty amazing what they can do with a thin film of plastic these days.

There are some coatings that are absolutely awesome. It is very unlikely that one of those coatings were used at a dealership.

The bottom line is that the guys that are authorized installers are not installing the real-deal coatings for the chump change dealerships expect. For example, dealerships use in-house "detailers" to apply their supposed coatings at $10 per hour. For something like Opti-Coat PRO, Modesta BC-05, CQuartz Finest or Ceramic Pro 9H will cost a dealership somewhere in the realm of $700-$1500(the coating used and approach to application will cause the difference in cost). There is no chance a dealership will pay that when they can markup $10 of labor and $5 of product to $1500.

They do not care about quality, only ROI.

My shop installs all of those coatings as well as paint protection film / clear bra. Feel free to ask any questions you may have in regard to those products/services.

I bet they can also coat the key fobs with the same coating for $150.00 each.

Don't buy it from the Audi stealership...talk to a decent detailer.

I need to look into this more, with all the fancy hydrophobic stuff they got these days, normal car paint is probably passe
