I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you're running NTFS.

In explorer click "Organize -> Folder and search options -> View" and post what you have selected for Hidden Files and Folders, Hide extension for known file types and Hide protected operating system files.

When you run IE can you run it as admin? If you do, do you see the same problem when saving files? Do you have UAC disabled?

Hidden Files and Folders: Show Hidden Files, Folders and Drives
Hide extension [CHECKED]
Hide protected [UNCHECKED]

UAC is disabled, problem still occurs with IE as admin (and administrator account.)

For F14, kde wm? Evidently some other people have run into the 'no files' problem with it...They went about fixing it with checkdisk in windows, though this may not help you if you're not looking for it to possibly muck things up...Not sure if it's KDE, or Fedora in this case.

Sorry, if that wasn't the case...

It wasn't KDE, but this no files thing has happened to a lot of people for various reasons.

In other news I really do believe it's a permissions problem (because I'm getting access denied for other browser downloads.) Unrelated to this issue, but I had a lot of permissions issues with inherited hardware RAID partitions, which had permissions set for an UNKNOWN ACCOUNT (XP accountI believe,) so I had to take ownership and set my account as full control owner.

Also I've been having trouble with Thunderbird and connections, so my upgrade thus far is leaving an awful taste in my mouth.

Not really wanting to have to reinstall, or DBAN my hard drive. I don't see how using DBAN would be any more effective then a full format for just reinstalling. This isn't about me wanting to get rid of private data.

What does it matter what internet browser I use? How does my browser choice affect anything in this that hasn't already been covered?

I stated that in IE, I'm able to save to the C: drive, where my windows installation rests, however, the file is invisible.
I also stated that in FF, Opera and Chrome, I'm unable to save to the C: drive at all.
