Advice for an older notebook

I have my company laptop, which is an older, beater machine. It's overdue for some maintenance, and since my job description has changed drastically, not requiring me to have a notebook anymore, they won't give me hardware support like they used to.

The notebook is an Acer Aspire 5517.

Here're the issues with it:

-F-key is broken. It won't stay on the keyboard at all.

-It has been sitting at my office desk for the past 6 months while I worked from home or at work sites... during this time someone spilled something on the power cord. It's so sticky and disgusting I don't even want to touch it. I need a new one.

-The power cord from my Acer netbook works fine, but the hole where it goes into the notebook is sticky as hell. Whatever this crap is is causing it to stop detecting the charger within a minute or two. It charges a bit, but then suddenly it displays that it's running on battery only.

Any ideas?

Why do anything at all?(it isn't yours) Return it to them?(you don't need it) Or let it go missing? (will only benefit you)

When I worked for Comcast the higher tech's were given laptops as well. They never updated them, nor were they put on their inventory. Lots ended up on craigslist with a lot of custom software on them.
