iPhone 3g on T-Mobile problems

I tried doing this for a friend, and I screwed up. His phone was jailbroken, and unlocked. I updated his phone to 3.1.3 firmware, and jailbroke it, but now the phone is stuck at this screen where it shows you itunes and a usb cord. It can receive phone calls, and make phone calls, but that's it.

I think I need to activate the phone, but none of us have AT&T. I know friends that have AT&T, but I have no idea if this will work. Even if I activate the phone, will the T-Mobile sim work? Will I need to upgrade to iOS 4 or downgrade to 3.1.2? I tried to change the firmware of the phone using the shift+restore feature, but it refuses every firmware I throw at it.

I should have stuck with Android phones.

You need to "hactivate" the phone.

Thanks, but I can't figure out how to do this. From what I've googled, they want me to go out and buy a sim card from radio shack?

Actually, this turns out to be an iPhone 2g 8g. Don't know if that makes it any easier.

Never mind, I got it jail broken and unlocked. Being a 2g phone made a big difference. I can never understand why people want these phones.

Most people use it without having to jailbreak
