deactivating MAK licenses?

I have a few workstations I need to reformat but do not want to lose their MAK licenses. I don't want to have to reformat and then re-activate using new licenses, which just will count towards my total. Is there a way to do this?

You can't. Your MAK count identifies the number of activations, not the number of licenses in use.

You could try calling a MS Activation Center and explain the situation, they may be able to modify the MAK count:

And this is why it feels like MS is just shoving KMS activation down our throats. It's still buggy too.

sigh.. I'm not near the limit yet, but am just trying to approach the limit as slowly as possible. As long as you can call the activation center and have them fudge your numbers in your favor, then I guess it's not that big a deal, still kind of a pain though.

thanks for the replies
